Tampa Wins in Historic Occasion for Florida Tech

MELBOURNE, Fla. – In the first-ever home meet for Florida Tech, the Sunshine State Conference program suffered a pair of losses to longtime power University of Tampa. The Spartan men won 131-50 as its women swam to a 155-22 romp on Friday.

The Spartan women earned a clean sweep of the events, capturing first-place in all 10 female races. UT’s men took top honors in eight of 10 venues.

Tampa opened the meet with a women’s victory in the 200 Medley Relay from Hilary Stetekluh, Alex Hipolito, Lindsay Calimer and Heather Glenday in a time of 1:52.10. UT also captured first-place in the 200 Free Relay from Kristine Kassl Glenday, Lauren Richey and Emily Tan in 1:42.16.

Also finishing first in individual races for head coach Ed Brennan’s Tampa team were Kylie Piche in the 200 Free (2:01.58), Hipolito in the 200 IM (2:15.97), Calimer in the 50 Free (25.71), Tiera Forsyth in the 200 Fly (2:16.88), Emily Grams in the 100 Free (54.74), Kassl in the 200 Back (2:19.21), Alexandria Greenhill in the 500 Free (5:20.75) and Michelle Walcker in the 200 Breast (2:31.31).

UT’s men also won both relays, including the 200 Medley Relay with Joshua Werner, Kevin Doran, Felipe Manzo and Elias Dammann (1:37.87) and the 200 Free Relay team of Felipe Manzo, Chris Nunnari, Jeff Cook and Jonathan Wilks (1:29.70).

The Spartans also captured six individual events with Berk Kahraman in the 200 Free (1:48.95), Robert Cicchini in the 200 IM (2:04.41), Les Moore in the 200 Fly (2:02.79), Norbert Kovacs in the 200 Back (1:55.43), Zane Hranac in the 500 Free (5:02.44) and Dammann in the 200 Breast (2:19.53).

Tampa will now travel to Fort Lauderdale, Fla., where it will swim in its second meet in as many days, facing Nova Southeastern University in another SSC battle. The meet is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
