UT Gets Blacked Out by FSC at HomeJanuary 18, 2012
TAMPA, Fla.- The University of Tampa fall to Sunshine State Conference rival Florida Southern College at home. The Spartans (7-9, 1-6 SSC) suffered its second conference loss of the season to the Mocs (13-3, 5-2).
Tied with 16 points in the paint, the match-up was sure to be a close game to the end. The Spartans managed to keep the lead the entire first half. Florida Southern put up almost twice as many shots as Tampa, but failed to connect shooting only 27.5 percent from the field. UT shot 48 percent from the field in the first.
Senior Jaleesa Harmon led UT with eight points while junior Moriah Hodge recorded seven of her nine rebounds in the first half. Senior Danielle Walsh led the Mocs in the first half with seven points while both Morgan Lamberg and Michaela Hawley chipped in five rebounds apiece. The Spartans led 28-24 going into the break.
Florida Southern continued to dominate the boards in the second half. The Mocs were able to rebound and move the ball up the floor quickly which helped them to gain its first lead of the game in the second period. UT lost 56-51 after holding a 15 point lead over FSC. 10 of the Mocs 18 second chance points came in the second half compared to only two by the Spartans.
Harmon finished with 19 points and seven rebounds to lead the Spartans. Lamberg and Hawley lead the Mocs with 14 points apiece with Hawley recording 16 rebounds.
The Spartans look to recover from the loss and defend their home court as they take on Palm Beach Atlantic on Saturday at 2 p.m.
