Freshman Thashia Garcia won her first match over a nationally ranked opponent.No. 15 Lions Too Much For Spartans
April 4, 2012ST. LEO, Fla. – The University of Tampa (6-9, 0-7 SSC) tennis team fell by a 7-2 score at No. 15 Saint Leo University (15-4, 4-3 SSC) in a Sunshine State Conference match at the SLU Tennis Center.
Both of Tampa’s victories came in singles play, including a three-set victory by freshman Thashia Garcia in the number-one match. Garcia defeated a nationally-ranked opponent in No. 25 Emily Singleton by a score of 6-4, 4-6, 10-7.
Fellow freshman Meg Wladimirski defeated Jeannette McDonald in the number-three contest, winning by a tally of 7-6 (7-2), 6-3.
The Spartans will finish their regular season on April 12 at Eckerd. The SSC match is scheduled for 3 p.m., in St. Petersburg, Fla.
