Whaley Earns Second-Consecutive Academic All-District Honor
GREENWOOD, Ind. - University of Tampa volleyball senior Berkley Whaley was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District team as voted on by College Sports Information Directors of America members, announced Thursday.
Whaley earns a spot on the All-District squad for the second consecutive year, as the reigning AVCA National Player of the Year was a First Team Academic All-America selection in 2014. The advertising and public relations major carries a grade point average of 3.82 in addition to being a offensive juggernaut for the No. 5 ranked Spartans. The St. Petersburg, Fla. native becomes the 30th Tampa volleyball athlete to earn the Academic All-District.
This season, the outside hitter leads the team with 344 kills at a strong .294 attack percentage from the left pin. The senior has an astounding 14 double-doubles this season and is averaging 3.95 kills per set to go along with 3.10 digs per set as a rounded weapon for UT.
The Spartans are 21-4 this season and ranked first in the Sunshine State Conference with a 10-1 conference tally.
Lynn University placed a pair of athletes on the team as Claire Angelich and Marissa Tandron earned the accolade. Palm Beach Atlantic mirrored with Faith Rohn and Emma Ballantyne each receiving a spot on the team. West Florida outside hitter Autumn Duyn rounds out the team as the lone Gulf South Conference recipient.
