DENVER, Colo. – Concluding day two of the Colorado Premier Challenge, the No. 20 University of Tampa volleyball team was defeated in both matches on their second, and final day of action at Regis University.
The Spartans fell in three to the Regis University Rangers and then again to the University of West Florida Argonauts in four sets. UT started the weekend tournament with a 2-2 overall record and now sit 2-6 on the season.
The Rangers were victorious to the Spartans in three sets with scores of 25-23, 25-20, and 25-21.
Offensively, the Spartans were led by their middle hitters, Taylor Fosler and Courtney Vogler. Fosler had four kills on the match hitting .444, while Vogler had five kills on the match hitting .364. On the pins, freshman Nylah Demps totaled seven kills on 19 attempts and sophomore Nicole Dominguez stated 11 kills on 29 attempts. Feeding the hitters were setters Jen Aprile and Melissa Elias, who recorded 18 and 15 assists respectively. Freshman Kaitlyn Ajmani played libero for the Spartans, leading the team in digs with 17.
Tampa then went on to face region foe University of West Florida who defeated Tampa in four sets with scores of 25-21, 25-21, 23-25, and 25-20.
Once again, the Spartans were led offensively by Fosler, who logged 12 kills at a .526 kill percentage. Setters Aprile and Elias each had 23 assists and eight digs on the match. Elias also aced the Argonauts on two separate occasions. Senior Kasey Reynolds took charge in the back row on defense with 19 digs, while at the net, transfer Danielle Christian led the team with five blocks.
UT continues their season with their first Sunshine State Conference match on Friday, September 15. Come out to Bob Martinez Athletics Center to cheer on the Spartans as they look to slay the Lions of Saint Leo University.
