Bio
David Gauss joined the University of Tampa Sports Performance staff in 2025, bringing a diverse international background in both athletic competition and performance coaching. Originally from Germany, David has built a well-rounded career across multiple sports and levels of competition in both Europe and the United States.
David holds a Bachelor of Education from Landau University in Germany (2021), a Master’s degree in Sport and Exercise Science from Cumberland University in Tennessee (2024), and a Master of Education from RPTU Landau (2025). He is certified by USA Weightlifting (USAW), EXOS as a Performance Specialist (XPS), and as a Certified Nutritionist. He is also CPR/AED certified.
His coaching experience includes internships with VfB Stuttgart’s Youth Academy in Germany’s Bundesliga and San Diego State University (NCAA Division I), as well as performance testing support with the NHL’s Nashville Predators. He has served as a Strength & Conditioning Coach for semi-professional soccer and American football teams in Germany and as a Graduate Assistant S&C Coach at Cumberland University (NAIA).
An accomplished multi-sport athlete, David competed in semi-professional soccer and American football in Germany and has a background in FIS-level competitive downhill skiing.
David brings a global perspective, technical expertise, and a relentless drive to help Spartan athletes reach their full potential on and off the field.
