Spartans Split In Home Tri-Match

TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Tampa beach volleyball team split on the day against Stevenson University and Eckerd College. The Spartans defeated the Mustangs 3-2, before falling to the Tritons in a similar fashion.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Once again, Head Coach Jeff Lamm switched up the lineups, returning to his original partners.
  • Sorrel Houghton and Melissa Elias lost on the ones court. The Tritons defeated UT in two, by set scores of 21-18 and 21-17.
  • In the twos slot, Leigh Buttner partnered with Gabbi Pacatte to defeat the Tritons in three sets. The Spartans lost the first set 21-12, and then came back and won the second two 21-18, 15-13.
  • Nicole Dominguez and Katie McKiel lost to EC in two by scores of 21-12, 21-16.
  • On the fours court, once again Alexandra Misca and Sarah Moore won in two games. The duo were the only two Spartans who won both duals of the day. They won 21-16 and 21-17.
  • Marisa Beisner and Nylah Demps teamed up on the fives court, taking the Tritons to three. The pair won the first set and then lost the second two. The set scores of the fives court were 21-15, 20-22, and 7-15 respectively.
  • Finally, Danielle Christian and Taylor George teamed up for an exhibition match against Eckerd, winning in two 21-17, 24-22.

  BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:

  • In its first season of play, the Spartans won the initial meeting with the Stevenson University Mustangs 3-2.
  • This is the second time that UT has lost to the Eckerd College Tritons 3-2.

 

UP NEXT:
On Friday, March 16th, Tampa will travel to Fort Myers, Florida where they will compete against the Florida Gulf Coast University Eagles.
