TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Tampa beach volleyball team defeated Florida Southern College by a final score of 4-1. The Spartans lead the all-time series over the Moccasins 3-1.
The first win of the day came from partners Marisa Beisner and Danielle Christian. This duo won in the fours position in two sets by scores of 21-18 and 21-9. Nicole Dominguez and Leigh Buttner were the second pair to get a win for Tampa. However, unlike Beisner and Christian, this match went to three sets. The Spartans lost the first set 21-18, and then came back to win the next two 21-14 and 15-10. Tampa then clinched the match with back-to-back wins on the fives and the threes court. On the fives court, Claire Blumenthal and Sarah Moore won in two sets 21-18, and 21-12. Shortly after, Tampa's fourth and final win came from Gabbi Pacatte and Nylah Demps on the threes court. These two also won in two sets, 22-20, and 21-9. On the ones court the Moccasins defeated freshmen partners, Sorrel Houghton and Melissa Elias, in three sets by scores of 19-21, 21-19, and 15-10. This was Florida Southern's only win in the dual.
