Bio
Colby Hazelip is in his first season as an assistant coach at the University of Tampa after being hired prior to the 2026 season.
Hazelip brings a dynamic blend of high-level playing experience, innovative coaching, and performance expertise to Tampa. A volunteer assistant at the University of Tampa during the 2022–2023 and 2024–2025 seasons, Hazelip contributed to two national championship campaigns, playing a key role in player development and program success.
Recognized as one of the game’s rising leaders, Hazelip was named to the prestigious AVCA 30 Under Thirty list in 2023. Coaching since 2018, Hazelip has worked with athletes across all levels — from beginners learning the fundamentals to professionals competing at the highest stages — building a reputation for individualized development and long-term performance growth.
In addition to coaching, Hazelip is a certified personal trainer with a background in postural alignment therapy, integrating movement efficiency and strength principles into athlete training. In 2024, Hazelip presented at the AVCA Convention on beach volleyball-specific strength and conditioning, further establishing a voice in the performance space.
Hazelip’s journey in the sport is uniquely inspiring. Beginning volleyball at age 22, Hazelip rapidly ascended within five years to compete in semi-professional tournaments, train alongside professional groups, and step into a coaching role at the University of Tampa. That accelerated progression reflects a relentless work ethic and deep commitment to mastery.
Driven by a passion for both the sport and personal development, Hazelip continues to impact athletes not only as competitors but as confident and resilient individuals.
