Spartans Close Out Seminole Beach Bash
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Tampa wrapped up play at the Seminole Beach Bash on Saturday morning, falling 4-1 to Florida Gulf Coast University at the FSU Beach Volleyball Courts.
The University of Tampa beach volleyball team battled across all five flights in a competitive dual with FGCU, highlighted by a strong straight-set victory at the No. 4 position.
FGCU had a win at the No. 2 flight, where Nicole De Oliveira and Erin Miller defeated Kaelyn Fredette-Huffman and Hailey Peterson in straight sets, 21-14, 21-12. The Eagles added another point at No. 3 as Andrea Dietz and Sydney Majick topped Jordan Berglin and Lauren Duke, 21-16, 21-14.
Tampa responded at the No. 4 spot, as Tess Schrenger and Angel Williams delivered a decisive performance. The Spartan duo controlled both sets, earning a 21-18, 21-17 victory to put Tampa on the board.
At the No. 1 position, Hailey Wolfe and Nevaeh Wolfe pushed their match to three sets after splitting the first two. The duo answered a 21-16 opening-set loss with a 21-19 second-set win, but FGCU claimed the decisive third set, 15-12.
The No. 5 flight also went the distance, as Brooke Green and Samantha Ostrander forced a third set with a 21-18 second-set victory. After narrowly dropping the first set 21-19, the Spartans ultimately fell 15-13 in the tiebreaker.
