Beach Volleyball Drops Two on Day 1 of FAU Invitational
POMPANO BEACH, Fla. – The University of Tampa beach volleyball team faced two of the nation's top programs on Saturday at the FAU Invitational, falling to No. 3 USC and No. 6 TCU at Pompano Beach Pier.
How It Happened – #3 USC
The Spartans opened the day against No. 3 USC, where the Trojans secured the dual by winning the first three completed courts.
USC struck first at the No. 6 flight, as Madison Goellner and Kaileigh Truslow defeated Madison Hankins and Lauren Cook 21-12, 22-20.
At the No. 1 position, Ashley Pater and Kennedy Coakley controlled the match from the start, defeating Nevaeh Wolfe and Hailey Wolfe 21-9, 21-8 to extend the Trojan lead.
USC clinched the dual at the No. 5 flight, where Kyra Zaengle and Calinda Kok topped Anna Bayes and Lauren Duke 21-10, 21-15.
The Trojans continued their momentum at the remaining courts. Alana Embry and Quincy Stephens edged Kaelyn Fredette-Huffman and Hailey Peterson 24-22, 21-10 at No. 3, while Zoey Henson and Sarah Wood defeated Tess Schrenger and Angel Williams 21-19, 21-15 at No. 2.
USC completed the sweep at the No. 4 flight, where Bella Satterwhite and Kerry Keefe earned a 21-10, 21-16 win over Logan Martin and Jordan Berglin.
How It Happened – #6 TCU
Tampa returned to the sand in the afternoon to face another top-10 opponent in No. 6 TCU.
The Horned Frogs opened the dual with a win at the No. 6 flight, as Emma Glagau and Hallie Corinne Frist defeated Bella Rosillo and Mary Claire Oswald 21-10, 21-12.
At the No. 1 position, Anhelina Khmil and Natalie Glenn secured a straight-set victory over Tess Schrenger and Angel Williams, 21-13, 21-12.
TCU added another point at No. 3, where Marcela Mattoso and Sofia Izuzquiza topped Kaelyn Fredette-Huffman and Hailey Peterson 21-12, 21-17.
The Horned Frogs clinched the dual at No. 5, as Hannah Taylor and Melina Mol defeated Taylor Bedinghaus and Sammie Ostrander 21-15, 21-13.
TCU completed the sweep at the remaining courts. Stacy Reeves and Denie Konstantinova defeated Anna Bayes and Lauren Duke 21-13, 21-19 at No. 4, while Elea Beutel and Adria Serrano Ferro closed the match with a 21-12, 21-19 victory over Nevaeh Wolfe and Hailey Wolfe at No. 2.
