Spartans Start Strong on Day 1 in the SSC Championships
ST. LEO, Fla. – The University of Tampa beach volleyball team continued its strong play on Friday, earning a 3-0 victory over Eckerd College at the Saint Leo Beach Volleyball Courts.
How It Happened
The Spartans secured the dual early by claiming victories in three straight flights, showcasing depth and control throughout the lineup.
Tampa struck first at the No. 5 position as Sammie Ostrander and Jordan Berglin delivered a commanding straight-set win, 21-17, 21-12, to give the Spartans an early advantage.
At No. 4, Anna Bayes and Lauren Duke followed with another dominant performance, cruising past their opponents 21-11, 21-11 to put Tampa firmly in control.
The dual was clinched at the No. 3 spot, where Kaelyn Fredette-Huffman and Hailey Peterson handled business in straight sets, 21-16, 21-19, securing the decisive third point.
Play at the top two flights was halted unfinished after Tampa had already clinched the match. At No. 2, Tess Schrenger and Angel Williams were in a tight battle, leading late in the second set after taking the first 21-14. Meanwhile, Nevaeh Wolfe and Hailey Wolfe rebounded from a first-set loss at No. 1 to take the second set and were headed into a third.
