Beach Volleyball Repeats as SSC Champions
ST. LEO, Fla. – The University of Tampa beach volleyball team earned a pair of victories over Palm Beach Atlantic on Saturday at the Saint Leo Beach Volleyball Courts, opening with a 3–1 win before securing a tightly contested 3–2 triumph later in the day.
How It Happened – Match 1 (Tampa 3, Palm Beach Atlantic 1)
Tampa set the tone early by capturing three of the first four completed flights to secure the dual victory.
The Spartans picked up a key win at the No. 2 position, where Tess Schrenger and Angel Williams delivered a commanding straight-set performance, 21-16, 21-17, to put Tampa on the board.
At No. 3, Ka Fredette-Huffman and Hailey Peterson battled through three sets to earn a hard-fought 21-18, 15-21, 15-10 victory, extending the Spartans' advantage.
Anna Bayes and Lauren Duke clinched the dual at No. 4 with a dominant 21-14, 21-12 win, giving Tampa its decisive third point.
Palm Beach Atlantic claimed the No. 5 flight in a tightly contested match, 26-24, 21-18.
Play at the top flight went unfinished after the Spartans secured the match, with Nevaeh Wolfe and Hailey Wolfe splitting the first two sets and trailing in the third.
How It Happened – Match 2 (Tampa 3, Palm Beach Atlantic 2)
In the second meeting of the day, Tampa edged Palm Beach Atlantic in a back-and-forth dual that came down to the final flight.
The Sailfish struck first with wins at No. 2 and No. 3, putting Tampa in an early deficit.
The Spartans responded at No. 4, where Anna Bayes and Lauren Duke remained perfect on the day with a decisive 21-14, 21-7 victory to cut into the lead.
At No. 5, Sammie Ostrander and Jordan Berglin delivered a clutch straight-set win, 21-18, 21-18, evening the match at 2-2.
The dual came down to the top flight, where Nevaeh Wolfe and Hailey Wolfe battled through three sets to secure a 22-20, 14-21, 15-7 victory, clinching the match for Tampa.
Palm Beach Atlantic's lone additional point came at No. 2 in a three-set decision, while the Sailfish also secured a straight-set win at No. 3.
