#19 Tampa Takes Down Lynn 10-5
TAMPA, Fla. - The No. 19 University of Tampa Spartans defeated Sunshine State conference opponent Lynn University by a score of 10-5 in Friday night's series opener. The win moves Tampa to 26-9 on the season and 5-2 in the SSC while Lynn drops to 24-9 and 4-5 in league play.
Both sides got on the board in the first frame. The Knights picked up an unearned run off Tampa righty Danny Keefe (3-3), who went six innings giving up two runs and just one earned. Keefe walked only two Knights while striking out seven.
Tampa rebounded for Keefe in the bottom half of the inning, loading the bases with a single from Jesus Barroso and two consecutive hit by pitches. Right fielder Steven Broschofsky then roped a double to left center scoring two. Jared Simon followed it up with an RBI groundout to put Tampa up 3-1.
RBI singles from Devin Gonzalez and Casey Albanese made the score 6-2 in favor of the Spartans in the third. Albanese added another RBI single in the seventh for insurance and Mike Schwartz popped a solo home run in the game, his eighth on the season.
