UT Newcomer Presented Florida Collegiate Summer League Award
MAITLAND, Fla. - University of Tampa baseball player Ben Brown was honored with the Cy Young Award as the top pitcher in the Florida Collegiate Summer League.
The Winter Haven, Fla., native spent two seasons at the State College of Florida and will attend UT as a junior in the 2011-12 season.
Brown stood out as the top starter for the Diamond Dawgs. He appeared in eight games, starting six, not including an appearance in the all-star game and two games in the playoffs. He posted a team-best 1.35 ERA, which tied for the second-best in the Florida League.
Brown logged 40.0 innings and fanned a team-best 32 batters. He issued out just three walks on the season and gave up a total of six earned runs. The 5-foot-11-inch right-hander concluded the 2011 summer with a 4-1 record and tied for the second-most wins in the league.
