Music Helps Fuel Success For Nate Titus
Nate Titus, a redshirt senior on the UT baseball team, has lived his whole life here in Tampa, Fla. He attended Jesuit High School in Tampa, completed his bachelor degree at UT and is currently in graduate school at UT working towards an MBA.
With all of Titus' athletic and scholastic success I asked him what drives and motivates him to succeed. "Outside of baseball, music is my life. The lyrics of my favorite artists really motivate me and fuel me to do well. I love listening to Lil Wayne, Eminem, Drake or Joe Budden before a game. Music just gets me fired up and ready to pitch. It gets me to a better place and helps me focus."
Titus would love to make a career out of music as well. "My dream job would be an event manager for a rap artist or an even manager for a music facility. If that doesn't work out I would want to work in baseball and be in the front office of a professional baseball team, ideally the Rays because they are my favorite team."
Playing baseball practically his whole life has taught Titus good habits, staying in shape and time management. "Baseball helped keep me grounded and helped me focus on time management. When I got injured, I went through a rough patch but I matured through it and got stronger from it. Baseball kept me focused and on track. The injury helped me realize that I need an education."
Titus also enjoys weightlifting and staying in shape. He says that during season he works out outside of baseball about three days a week but when the season is over he will work out at least six days a week.
He loves being outdoors and playing with his two beautiful golden retrievers Teddy and Graham. Graham thinks he is a lap dog when in fact he is 90 pounds. "No matter what is going on in my life, my dogs are always so happy and excited to see me when I come home every day. They can put me in a good mood when I'm upset about something. They're a part of the family."
Titus believes that his father Daniel Titus is the most influential figure in his life. "Just seeing how successful he is and what a great father and husband he is to my mom and I, I've always wanted to be like him. My dad always taught me to be humble. I've learned so much from him about being a good student, player and hard worker."
Titus went abroad to Spain last summer and took a lot away from his trip. "Spain was an amazing experience and at the same time a culture shock. I was very lucky to have such a wonderful host family. Going abroad was definitely one of the best experiences of my life. I've taken eight years of Spanish so I was able to speak fluently for the most part over in Spain.
Learning Spanish has helped me in other classes because Spanish makes you get out of your comfort zone. Also, after doing a presentation in Spanish, it makes doing a presentation in English seem easy."
Titus plans to stay in the Tampa area after graduate school. "After I complete grad school I still want to stay in Tampa. I am very family oriented and most of my family lives here. There are a lot of job opportunities here and you can't beat the weather."
