MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. - The University of Tampa baseball team (6-0) finished off a three-game sweep over the Georgia College Bobcats (0-3) today at John Kurtz Field with a 16-14 victory in 11 innings.
10 runs scored between the seventh and eighth innings by the Bobcats took the game into extras tied 12-12. After swapping two-run half innings in the 10th, back-to-back home runs to lead off the 11th inning by Kevin Santa (first) and Ricky Negron (first) gave the Spartans the 16-14 lead they would need to win. Santa had four hits total on the day (4-for-6) with two runs scored and two RBI.
Brad Hencke started and allowed two unearned runs over six innings of work, giving up just one hit, walking two and striking out six. He has yet to allow an earned run in 10 innings pitched this season.
Conner Andrews picked up his first career win, pitching three and two-thirds frames from the eighth to 11th inning. He allowed two unearned runs on three hits, striking out six.
J.D. Osborne had his best game yet as a Spartan, finishing the day 3-for-5 at the plate with a double, his third home run and 4 RBI prior to being replaced defensively in the seventh. In the series, he hit .429 (6-for-14) with a double, two home runs, three runs scored and 7 RBI.
The Spartans are back in action Friday, February 12th in Pensacola, Fla. where they'll face the West Florida Argonauts for the start of a three-game set. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 PM ET.
