No. 2 Spartans defeat Bobcats in series opener

TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa baseball team matched up with Georgia College under friday night lights

  • Tampa opened up the game with a run in the second inning. With Vin Cosenzo on base, Gaffney singled to the pitcher.
  • The Bobcats responded with a run in the top of the third.
  • The bats really came alive in the third inning for the Spartans, putting four runs on the board. 
  • Lee lead off the inning with a single, left of the centerfielder for Georgia College. Kevin Santa also singled to left field, advancing Lee to second. Another crack of the bat to left field from L.Rivera, he singled as well as an RBI with Lee scoring.
  • Two runners on with J.D. Osborne in the box, he advances to first on a fielder's choice by the Bobcat's shortstop. After errors in the field, L. Rivera scores.
  • Consenzo brings in the final two runs of the inning with a strong single up the middle. Advancing the Spartans to 5-0 in the bottom of the third.
  • In the bottom of the fourth, Tampa tacked on another run with a double from R.Rivera hit to the left side. Santa then singled up the middle, scoring R. Rivera. Making the deficit 6-1.
  • Santa was the first Spartan on base in the seventh, getting hit by a pitch and L.Rivera was walked to put two on base with Chacon up to bat. He hits a single, loading the bases.
  • Cosenzo makes it safe to first on a fielding error, scoring Santa.
  • L.Rivera scores the final run of the game with a muffled throw from the Bobcat's. The Spartans ended the game with a final score of 8-1.


  • Coming off of his player of the week performace, Garrett Cave had five strike-outs, one hit and one run in five innings of work.
  • Santa went 3-4 with one RBI.
  • Cody Martin pitched two innings with three strikeouts and two hits.
  • Colton Widdows closed the game with two innings of work with only giving up one hit.


  • Tampa is on an eight-game win streak against Georgia College.
