Yorvis Torrealba Takes SSC Player of the Week Honors

MELBOURNE, Fla. - After leading the No. 5 University of Tampa baseball team to a road series win over SSC rival Florida Southern, Yorvis Torrealba has earned the honors of the Sunshine State Conference Player of the Week.

The junior outfielder from Parkland, Fla., is recognized for the first time in his career after leading Tampa at the plate to an SSC series win. The junior outfielder went 7-for-12 while recording at least two runs in every game of the series as well as tallying three home runs during the series. Torrealba finished atop of the SSC in hitting with a .417 average and a slugging percentage of .697.

Torrealba's top game came in a 7-5 victory where he went a perfect 4-for-4 with two home runs, two RBI, and four runs scored. For the week, Torrealba put up an unbelievable .583/.688/1.333 with three home runs, four runs batted in, and eight runs scored.

Athletes of the Week are chosen from a pool of nominees for their performances during the week of April 15 - 21, 2019. Athletes are nominated by Sports Information Directors of member institutions.
