J.D. Urso Named SSC Player of the Week
MELBOURNE, Fla. - Following a stellar offensive week and perfect defensive performance in four games, the University of Tampa's J.D. Urso has been recognized as the Sunshine State Conference Player of the Week.
Urso captures Player of the Week after slashing .462/.467/1.077 as the Spartans went 4-0 last week. The freshman from Tampa went 6-for-13 at the plate, with three extra-base hits, two home runs, four runs scored, 11 runs batted in, and a base on balls. Urso began the week a modest 1-for-3 in a win against Flagler. Then against Florida Tech, he had a hit, run scored, and multiple runs batted in during each game of the three-game set. Defensively, the shortstop had seven putouts and seven assists in 14 chances.
Sunshine State Conference Athletes of the Week are chosen from a pool of nominees for their performances during the week of February 21 - 27, 2022. Athletic Communication Directors of member institutions nominate athletes.
