All-America Honors Presented to C.J. Williams and J.D. Urso

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The ABCA/Rawlings All-America teams were announced on Friday, with NCAA Division II Championship Series top seed University of Tampa placing a pair of players among the honorees. Pitcher C.J. Williams was a first-team selection while infielder J.D. Urso was recognized on the third team.

The players were selected by members of the ABCA All-America committees. ABCA/Rawlings All-Region First Team selections, which were announced Wednesday, were eligible for All-America honors.

Williams, a graduate from Deerfield Beach, Fla.,  led the pitching staff with a 13-3 record over 17 starts, finishing with a team-high 105.1 innings pitched and 95 strikeouts while holding opponents to a .209 batting average. His 2.73 ERA was among the best on the staff, anchoring a rotation that helped Tampa to a 49-8 overall record.

Urso, a graduate utility player from Tampa, Fla., posted a stellar .365 batting average across 56 games and led the Spartans with 62 RBIs and 131 total bases. He also topped the team in slugging percentage (.655), doubles (22), and extra-base hits, while swiping 11 stolen bases and contributing solid defense across the infield. The son of head coach Joe Urso, the duo becomes the first father-son to be recognized as ABCA All-Americans in the NCAA Division II ranks. Joe Urso was previously honored as an All-American in the 1991 and 1992 seasons.

The ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove teams for all divisions will be announced on Wednesday, June 18. The ABCA NCAA Div. II Region All-Defensive teams will be announced on Thursday, June 19.

ABCA/Rawlings National Pitchers and Position Players of the Year in all divisions will be announced on Monday, June 23.

The Chair of the ABCA NCAA Div. II All-America & Coach of the Year Committee is Rudy Garbalosa of Lynn University. Also on the committee are Jim Gantt (Catawba College), Rick Giannetti (Dominican College), Dave Hajek (University of Colorado at Colorado Springs), Ryan Kelley (Wayne State University), Alex Koch (Wayne State College) and Marc Marizzaldi (Seton Hill University) and Tony Schifano (San Francisco State University).

The ABCA All-America team was first recognized in 1949 and now includes nine divisions: NCAA Divisions I, II and III, NAIA, NJCAA Divisions I, II and III, Pacific Association Division, and high school. ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove teams were first recognized in 2007.
