Daniel Mercado

Bio

Joined the University of Tampa baseball coaching staff ahead of the 2024 season, bringing passion, energy, and a proven track record of player development to the Spartans program. A driven and experienced coach, he is dedicated to developing student-athletes both on and off the field through disciplined instruction, motivational leadership, and a culture built on accountability and excellence.

During his tenure at Tampa, he has helped guide the Spartans to back-to-back NCAA Division II National Championships (2024 & 2025), as well as Sunshine State Conference, Regional, and Super Regional titles. Under his guidance, the Spartans posted team batting averages of .317 in 2024 and .321 in 2025, compiling a remarkable 107–18 record across two seasons.

Serving as the team’s infield and outfield coach, assistant hitting coach, and motivational bench coach, he has played a key role in both player performance and overall team culture.

His professional background also includes experience with the Kansas City Royals organization and the San Juan Metros of the Puerto Rican Winter League, further reinforcing his understanding of the game at the highest levels.

Throughout his coaching career, he has been recognized for his expertise in hitting and offensive development, infield and outfield mechanics, practice and game strategy, and player motivation. His leadership and communication skills have consistently fostered competitive, united teams capable of sustained success.
