Bio
After spending four seasons at The University of South Florida, Frank returned to UT prior to the 2015 season. He is currently in the second season of his second stint with the Spartans and has been part of three national championships at UT (2006, 2007, 2015).
In his first four years with USF, Maldonado has overseen many of the day-to-day activities with the program. He has worked with both the infielders and outfielders as well as the base runners while serving as the first base coach.
Prior to coming to USF, Maldonado spent five seasons as the hitting coach with the University of Tampa. He was instrumental in the success of the UT program, helping the Spartans to back-to-back NCAA national championships in 2006 and 2007. While at Tampa, he helped the squad to a first-place finish in the Sunshine State Conference and was among the top five statistically in every offensive category in 2006 and 2007.
As a result of his offensive tutelage, five Spartan hitters have been named All-Americans, three of them on the first-team. During his time at Tampa, Spartan hitters set school records for batting average, home runs, runs, hits, RBI, doubles and slugging percentage.
Prior to his five seasons at Tampa, Maldonado served as the hitting and infield coach at California Lutheran University and Barstow Community College. Kingsmen hitters and infielders topped the Southern California Intercollegiate Conference in fielding and hitting each year. In addition, CLU led the nation in scoring in 2001 and finished fifth nationally in double plays in 2004.
In Maldonado's 16 years of coaching at the collegiate level Maldonado has coached 11 All Americans, 1 National Player of the Year, 98 All Conference Players, 3 Conference Players of the Year, and has seen 52 of them selected in the Major League Baseball draft, including a record 11 in 2010. As a collegiate coach, his responsibilities have included coordinating recruiting, hitting, scheduling, base-running and infield instruction while also serving as a summer camp coordinator.
During the summer of 2007, he served as an assistant coach for the Oahu Paddlers of the Hawaii Collegiate League and also was the head coach for the Kehl Mosquitos of the German Baseball Federation during the summer of 1999. His summer coaching experiences have also included guiding two USA Developmental teams in Puerto Rico and Australia.
Frank and his wife Kendra, who teaches fourth grade at Roosevelt Elementary, have one son, Ezekiel, who was born on August 10, 2013.
