Hot Shooting Carries Tampa Past West Florida
Tampa, Fla. - The University of Tampa men's basketball team cruised to a 67-52 victory over West Florida, improving the Spartans to 3-1 on the season. The Argonauts fall to 1-1 with the loss.
Tampa, who connected on seven three-pointers in the first 12 minutes led by as many as 12 points in the first half and carried a 38-27 advantage to the break. Chris Evans earned his first start of the season, scoring 15 points in the first half on 3-5 shooting from beyond the arc.
West Florida came out in the second half and scored four of the first five baskets before Tampa went on an 8-0 run at 10:02. UT stretched its lead to as many as 21 points, which was achieved three times in the half.
Chris Evans led the team with 24 points, including 5-8 three pointers. Jeremy Black recorded his second double-double of the season with 14 points and a team-high 11 rebounds. Chris King also registered double figures with 18 points while Johnathan Ball assumed the point guard duties and finished with a team-high six assists.
