UT Men’s Basketball Adds Three in Spring Signing Period
TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa men's basketball program has announced the signing of three student-athletes for the spring NLI signing period to be eligible for the 2008-09 season. The group includes one incoming freshman and a pair of junior college transfers.
Included among the three are forwards Marcus Morrison and Fred Woods along with guard Anthony LaBruno. The trio will join Fall signee Dylan DeFeo and Florida Southern College transfer Arnaldo Abreu as newcomers on the 2008-09 squad.
Morrison, a 6-5, 190 pound forward from Tampa, comes to UT following a prep career at Brandon High School. At Brandon, he teamed with Boston College signee Evan Ravenel to lead the Eagles to the 5A state semifinals. While part of the all-state tournament team, Morrison averaged 16 points, 10 rebounds, two blocks and one steal per game as a senior. He was also selected to play in the Great Florida Shootout and the Hooters Tournament.
Woods, a 6-7, 210 pound forward from Milwaukee, Wis., played his first two collegiate seasons at Williston State College (N.D.). As a sophomore, he averaged 12.9 points and 7.5 rebounds for the Tetons. While starting 28 of 31 games, he shot 53.1 percent from the field with 48 assists, 46 blocks and 38 steals. As a freshman, he averaged 11.5 points, 7.6 rebounds, 1.7 blocks and 1.1 assists while starting 23 games. Prior to attending Williston State, he attended Riverside High School in Milwaukee.
LaBruno, a 6-3, 180 pound guard, comes to UT after two seasons at Ocean County College. A native of Bayonne, N.J., he played high school basketball at Bayonne High School with Spartan point guard Rashad Callaway. As a sophomore at OCC, LaBruno averaged 19.4 points, 7.4 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 2.2 steals while joining the 1,000 Point Club. He was also a first team All-American and first-team all-region XIX. A two-year member of the all-Garden State Athletic Conference, he also averaged 18.5 points and 5.1 rebounds as a freshman.
