UT’s Rashad Callaway Earns First-Team All-SSC Honors

ORLANDO, Fla. - Rashad Callaway was named to the 2008-09 All-Sunshine State Conference men's basketball first team as he was the lone University of Tampa player to receive honors.

Voting for the all-conference team is conducted among the league's men's basketball coaches and sports information directors.

Callaway ranks as UT leading scorer while averaging 18.2 points per game. He is also the team leader in assists (121), steals (39), field goals made (160) and 3-point field goals made (64). He scored double figures in 15 of UT's 16 regular season SSC contests, scoring 20-plus points on seven occasions and 30-plus points twice. On the season, he registered 31 points three times.

Rollins' Nick Wolf was selected as SSC Player of the Year, while Barry's Erick Nsangou was chosen Defensive Player of the Year. Florida Tech's Derek Hellemann garnered Freshman of the Year honors, and Florida Southern's Linc Darner was named the Coach of the Year for the second straight season.

Joining Wolf on the All-SSC First Team squad were: Rashad Callaway (Tampa), Tim Coenraad (Nova Southeastern), Rob Eldridge (Florida Southern), and Chris Hall (Lynn).

Earning All-SSC Second Team honors with Hellemann were: Quentin Cullop (Saint Leo), Jordan Prais (Saint Leo), Rion Rayfield (Florida Southern), John Thompson (Florida Southern), and Karega Tucker (Barry).

Florida Tech's Ryan Ballard and Rollins' Kevin Hogan received honorable mention.

Five student-athletes were recognized as members of the All-Freshman Team. Joining Hellemann were: Simon Cummings (Florida Tech), Kornilous Donnell (Eckerd), Preston Fredrick (Florida Southern), and Darrin Williams (Nova Southeastern).
