Tampa Alum A.J. Davis Returns as Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach
TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa has announced that 2008 alum and former letterwinner A.J. Davis has returned as an assistant coach at his alma mater.
"We are excited to add A.J. as a member of our coaching staff," says head coach Richard Schmidt. "I really believe that he will be a major benefit to our players, and our program."
Davis' ability to understand the movement of the body, focus on functional strength, as well as his knowledge of basketball from years of game experience will be a huge asset to the team.
His experience working with coaches in player development camps will also be a job responsibility as the member of the staff.
He has recently served as an intern with strength coaches at Nazareth College of Rochester from 2009-10. In that position, he specialized in player development camps at the University of Miami, UNC- Ashville, Southern Methodist University and New York University.
A member of The National Strength Coaching Association, Davis is also C.S.C.S. Certified.
After transferring to Tampa from Nazareth College, Davis was a three-year letterwinner for the Spartans from 2005-08. He played in 49 games in his junior and senior seasons while averaging 10.1 minutes per game as a senior.
Davis graduated from UT in 2008 with a degree in government and world affairs while earning a minor in law and justice and history.
