Spartans Fall to Knights in Exhibition Duel
ORLANDO, Fla. - The University of Tampa men's basketball team fell 97-72 to the University of Central Florida Knights in an exhibition match up.
The Spartan offense began with an explosive dunk by Da'Markco Foster over two defenders, followed by back to back three point baskets by Austin Rettig. Unfortunately the squad lost its momentum, as they were plagued with foul trouble early.
UT received great efforts from the bench, along with relentless plays to convert on second chance points during the first half. Rettig led the Spartans with nine points at halftime.
Tampa came out running at the start of the second half with a shot from downtown by Davis. Despite a plethora of made three point baskets, the Spartans could not stop the knights fast-break sets.
Foster led all scorers with 25 points, followed by an 18 point effort from Rettig.
The Spartan regular season will begin Tuesday night against Southeastern University at home.
Tickets are available at the gate for $5. Children 12-and-under will be admitted free. UT faculty, staff and students are admitted free when displaying a valid Spartan ID card.
