Davis Triple-Double Leads Tampa Over Cedarville
TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa Spartans (6-4) squared off against the Cedarville University Yellow Jackets (3-10) on Sunday afternoon at the Bob Martinez Athletics Center. The two played a back and forth affair
The Yellow Jackets controlled most of the first half as they lead the Spartans for 17:58 of the 20 minutes. Cedarville was able to push out to a 10 point lead midway through the half. UT battled back though as they were able to cut into the deficit and head into the break trailing 44-43.
In the second half of play, the Spartans defense came into play, as they held CU to only 20 points in the half on 7-25 shooting (28%). After giving up 25 first half points to Marcus Reineke, UT held Reineke to two points, on 1-2 shooting. Senior Tyler Zacur led Tampa in the second half, with 11 points, including nine points coming from three-point range.
Senior Jordan Davis led the way for the spartans, as he recorded his first career triple-double with 15 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists. Senior Eugene McCrory recorded his third consecutive double-double with 17 points and 13 rebounds. Sophomore Austin Rettig also collected a double-double, as he put up 10 points and 13 rebounds.
Tampa will be back in action on January 3rd, as they host Lynn University in their SSC home opener.
