Offense Explodes as Tampa Continues Hot Streak
Freshman Pat Bacon led UT with 27 points, eight rebounds and five assists.
TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa men's basketball team (9-14) defeated the Palm Beach Atlantic University Sailfish (12-11) by a final score of 81-67 Saturday evening at the Bob Martinez Center. The Spartans victory extended their winning streak to three games.
In first half action, play stayed consistent and fast paced between the Spartans and Sailfish, with Tampa outscoring PBA 35-34. Tampa finished the first half shooting 13-33, cashing in on six 3-point field goals. Palm Beach Atlantic shot 11-26 in the first half, also converting on six 3-point field goals. Marcel Robinson led Tampa in scoring with 12 points, all coming off 3-point field goals. Austin Rettig played a pivotal role in the first half grabbing five rebounds and dishing out 2 assists.
In second half of play, the Spartans came out hot and dominated play against the Sailfish, outscoring them 46-33. Tampa finished the game shooting 32-68, cashing in on 11 3-point field goals. Palm Beach Atlantic shot a measly 25-59, converting on six 3-point field goals. Pat Bacon turned it on in the second half and led Tampa in scoring with 17 points.
Pat Bacon fueled the Spartans offense with 27 points, eight rebounds, and five assists. Marcel Robinson contributed on offense scoring 17 points, 15 of them coming off 3-point shots. Austin Rettig was consistent as always, scoring 13 points and grabbing five rebounds. Matt Johnson played his role as floor general leading the Spartans in assists with seven.
Tampa will be back in action Wednesday, February 17th, where they'll face off against the Florida Southern College Mocs in a Sunshine State Conference matchup. In their first matchup earlier this season, the Mocs edged the Spartans by a final score of 93-75. The game is scheduled to tip off at 7:30 PM in the Bob Martinez Center at the University of Tampa and will be available for live stream.
