Bio
Garrett Putman joined Linc Darner's coaching staff at the University of Tampa before the 2023-24 season. He is entering his third season as a part of the coaching staff.
Putman was part of the coaching staff in 2024-2025, during which the Spartans achieved the most regular-season wins since the 2012-13 season (19 wins) and reached the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2014. The team finished the season with 20 wins and advanced to the semi-final of the Sunshine State Conference Tournament. They went undefeated in non-conference play to start the year and reached as high as No. 19 in the national rankings. The 2024-2025 team was ranked in the top ten nationally in team rebounds and three-point field goal percentage.
From Washington, D.C., Putman attended and played at McKinley Tech High School, leading the program to its first conference championship. McKinley Tech also made its first appearance in the DCIAA championship.
Putman then enrolled at Alderson Broaddus University, playing for two years. He then transferred to Florida Southern College in 2011. During that time, he was part of three Sunshine State Conference titles, two regular-season SSC titles, one NCAA South Regional title, and an NCAA Elite Eight appearance.
Following his graduation from FSC, he joined Knight Management Group, where he worked with NBA professionals. Some of the players he worked with included Grevis Vasquez, Brandon Knight, Dez Wells, and Maurice Creek.
He has also worked with professional trainer Keith "Shot Doc" Venney, starting his skills training career, where he has provided skills training for nearly 10 years. Putman also works as a mentor to promote healthy lifestyles for children and adults.
