Tampa Falls on the Road to No. 1 Nova Southeastern
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The University of Tampa men's basketball team put up 99 points on the road but could not slow down a high-powered Nova Southeastern attack, dropping a 112-99 decision in Saturday's Sunshine State Conference opener.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Half
Tampa came out firing offensively, hanging 52 points in the opening frame behind efficient shooting and a balanced scoring effort. However, Nova Southeastern's pressure and pace immediately became a factor. The Sharks forced 15 first-half turnovers and dominated the offensive glass (16 OREB), turning extra possessions into 68 points before the break.
Despite the deficit, the Spartans saw early sparks from Camden McCormick, who poured in 10 first-half points, while Ryan Blount added eight. Tampa also got production off the bench, with Malachi Martis providing a strong interior presence.
Tampa trailed 68–52 at halftime.
Second Half
The Spartans continued to battle, shooting 35-of-67 from the floor for the game and getting 47 more points after the break. Blount took over offensively in stretches, finishing with a team-high 21 points to go with eight rebounds and five assists. Trey Lane added 17 points, including a pair of threes, while Martis delivered an efficient 15 points on 7-for-7 shooting.
The Spartans' ball movement helped keep them within reach – dishing out 22 assists on 35 made baskets – but Nova Southeastern continued to capitalize on turnovers, scoring 31 points off giveaways. The Sharks also controlled the paint with 66 interior points and 29 second-chance points.
Despite a 38-point effort from the Tampa bench, Nova Southeastern maintained its lead and closed out the conference victory.
