Eric Snow Enjoying His Time At UT
Eric Snow couldn't take the brutally cold winters and icy streets of his hometown in the northeast anymore, so he decided to continue his education in Florida. After graduating from Saratoga Springs (N.Y.) High School in 2005, Snow decided that he needed one more year of schooling before he made the leap for college. He then attended Saddlebrook Preparatory in Wesley Chapel, Fla. There he continued playing golf for a year while striving to achieve higher SAT scores.
Ice hockey played a big role in Snow's life, considering he began playing at age three through the age of 18. He continued playing ice hockey as a center all through middle and high school. Snow became interested in playing golf when he was 15 years old and he made grave efforts to improve his skills throughout his high school career. "The game of golf really interested me so I stuck with it," Snow said. After five years of high school (four of them being in the northeast) Snow decided that the weather in Florida was too good to pass up.
At home Snow plays golf at Saratoga National in his hometown of Saratoga Springs. He had the opportunity to meet a few very well known people such as Bill Parcells, the legendary former NFL head coach; and Daniel Henning, the Miami Dolphins offensive coordinator. Snow also had the chance to play a few games with both of these gentlemen. He explained how there are a lot of celebrities attracted to his area in Saratoga Springs because it is the home of the Saratoga Race Track.
After high school, Snow went back to the northeast for a year at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Conn where he received a scholarship for golf. A year went by and he couldn't stop thinking about how nice a game of golf would be if it were a balmy 75 degrees outside. This left him no choice but to begin the search for colleges in Florida, the sunshine state. Snow liked a private institution called the University of Tampa where he began the fall of 2007.
"Going to the beach in January beats shoveling snow so I can
get out of my driveway," said Snow. He is now a part of UT's golf
team which he loves. "It takes a lot of commitment and dedication
considering we practice almost everyday but we do have a flexible
schedule," said Snow. They have the option of playing in the
morning or in the afternoon depending on their class schedule for
that particular day. "At Quinnipiac University, we had no option;
we were required to play seven days a week from 1-5 p.m., no
exceptions. This really took away from everyday life," Snow
said.
Snow is currently a junior at The University of Tampa and a sport
management major. He is still a part of UT's golf team and manages
to maintain good grades while also participating in intramural
sports such as basketball, soccer, and floor hockey. He is also
looking forward to traveling with a group of UT students to Europe
next semester considering he has never been to Europe.
Snow hopes one day to become an athletic director for a college. "I don't think golf could be a profession for me, I will certainly continue playing casually after school," said Snow. "If I can't find a job right after school, I may look into grad school where I will get a masters degree," commented Snow.
