Tampa Turns In Fifth Place Showing At Flagler Invitational
ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - The University of Tampa golf team registered a fifth place finish at the Flagler Invitational, posting an impressive showing at the 15-team field.
The Spartans finished with a 919 after an opening round of 308. UT responded with a 298 in the second round and shot a 313 in the final round on Tuesday.
Valdosta State won the tournament with an 892 as Flagler (903), South Carolina-Beaufort (904) and SCAD (904) finished ahead of Tampa in the top five. Two other Sunshine State Conference teams competed, including Florida Tech (924) and Eckerd (959).
Kris Shane was UT's top performer, finishing in a third place tie with a score of 220. After posting a 71 in each of the first two rounds, Shane finished with a 78.
Nicolas Jutigny finished in a 14th-place tie with a 227. Jutigny turned in UT's top round with a 68 in the second. The 68 also marked the lowest individual round for all performers, which included 80 golfers.
Kyle Roy (T-30th, 232), Charlie Green (58th, 241) and Eric Snow (T-68th, 249) rounded out Tampa's lineup. Josh Detmer and Scott Serwa also competed for the Spartans as individuals. Detmer shot a 245 to finish in a tie for 63rd as Serwa was 72nd after shooting a 252.
Tampa returns to action on Mon., Oct. 12 at the annual Spartan Invitational. The two day event will be played at Tampa's Rogers Park Golf Course.
