Mohit Balaji Wins Hurricane Invitational to Open Season for Spartans
ALBANY, Ga. - The University of Tampa men's golf team turned in a strong showing at the Hurricane Invitational, finishing sixth in the 15-team field with a 54-hole score of 876 (+12) at Doublegate Country Club. The highlight of the week came from senior Mohit Balaji, who captured the individual medalist title in a tightly contested battle against several nationally ranked players.
Balaji delivered one of the finest performances of his Spartan career, carding rounds of 73, 68, and 70 for a 5-under-par 211, earning him a one-shot victory over a trio of challengers at 212. After a steady opening round, Balaji surged into contention with his second-round 68, then showed composure under pressure with a closing 70 to secure the win. Balaji would break the tie and seal the victory on the 17th hole with a birdie.

Tampa's final rounds of 286 and 289 marked significant improvements after an opening 301, showing resilience and depth across the lineup. With Balaji's medalist finish leading the way, the Spartans proved they can compete with some of the region's strongest programs, including team champion Florida Southern (-6).
