Rooney and Ferreiro Named SSC Players of the Week

TAMPA, Fla - After playing a key role in Tampa's two wins last week, Jake Rooney and Nick Ferreiro have received the first ever Sunshine State Conference offensive and defensive Player of the Week Awards. The Spartans defeated Queens University 15-11 in the season opener.

Rooney was the offensive player of the week as he played a vital role in the Spartans win. He led the Spartans with five goals and six points in the victory. Rooney scored the game's opening goal at the 10:21 mark of the first quarter. Rooney netted four of his five goals in the first half.

Ferreiro was the defensive player of the week after going 21-22 on faceoffs and picking up a game-high 13 ground balls. The 21 faceoff win is a new program record for a single game. Ferreiro also recorded three assists in the win, including what turned out to be the game-winner in the third quarter.

The Spartans will host New York Tech Friday, February 14, at 7:30 p.m. at the Naimoli Family Athletic and Intramural Complex.
