Spartans Move Up Two Spots to No. 4 in Men’s Lacrosse Poll
TAMPA, Fla - The University of Tampa men's lacrosse team moved up two spots to No. 4 in the USILA poll, which was release earlier today. This is the Spartans highest ranking in program history, and the first time Tampa has been in the top five.
The Spartans are 7-0 and 1-0 in the Sunshine State Conference after defeating Florida Southern 12-6 last weekend.
The Spartans will defend their new ranking Wednesday, March 19, when they travel to Melbourne to take on Florida Tech in a conference match-up. Then Tampa will travel to Gaffney, South Carolina this weekend to take on No. 3 Limestone in a marquee south region match-up.
Tampa leads the NCAA in scoring averaging 17.60 goals per game. Jake Rooney, Conor Whipple, and Nick Ferreiro have played a major role in the offensive success. Rooney leads the team with 31 goals and 35 points, while Whipple has tallied 33 points. Ferreiro has a .703 faceoff win percentage while tallying 26 points.
Andrew Failla is 7-0 in the cage this season and has a .643 save percentage. The trio of Larry Gress, Marty Heyn, and Nate Tembi have helped hold opponents to 6.00 goals per game.
LeMoyne held on to the top seed in the poll, followed by Adelphi who is 4-0. Long Island Post rounds out the top five.
