No. 5 Spartans Host a Pair of Games this Week
TAMPA, Fla. - The No. 5 ranked University of Tampa men's lacrosse team is set to host a pair of games this week at the Naimoli Family Athletic and Intramural Complex. The Spartans will face Colorado Mesa tomorrow at 8 p.m. and then face Saint Leo Saturday night at 8 p.m. in a Sunshine State Conference match-up.
The Spartans enter the week with an 8-1 record and 2-0 in conference play, after falling 8-5 to No. 3 Limestone last weekend. The Spartans are lead by Conor Whipple, Jake Rooney, and Andrew Fallia. Whipple leads the Spartans with 18 assists and 46 points, while Rooney has netted a team-high 39 goals this season. Failla is 8-1 in the cage with a .626 save percentage, while holding opponents to 6.70 goals against average. Nick Ferreiro and Trevor Calleja have combined to win 68% of the faceoffs this season.
Colorado Mesa comes into the game with a 3-0 record after defeating Rollins 11-9 on Sunday. The Mavericks are lead by Stephen Dunn, Austin Pridham, and Brad Brandenburg. Dunn netted five goals against the Tars, while Pridham tallied a hat trick. Bradenburg made 11 saves in the win.
Saint Leo enters this week with a 6-3 record and 2-0 in conference play. The Lions have posted wins over Florida Tech and Lynn this season. Saint Leo is lead by Matt Obermeyer, Miles Britton, and Dave Moore. Obermeyer leads the Lions with 18 goals and 24 points while Britton has tallied 17 points. Moore has made 80 saves on the season and has a 6.52 goals against average. Will Cothron has won 103 of 142 faceoffs this season.
