UT’s Whipple and Heyn Named SSC Men’s Lacrosse Players of the Week
WINTER PARK, Fla. - Tampa's Conor Whipple and Marty Heyn have been selected Sunshine State Conference Men's Lacrosse Players of the Week, presented by VALIC.
Whipple, a freshman attacker from Tampa, Fla., led the No. 6 Spartans to a 2-0 week and the first-ever SSC regular-season championship. Whipple finished the week with eight goals and three assists for 11 points. He also totaled eight ground balls. Against Rollins, Whipple scored four goals, including the game winner, and added an assist in a 13-8 victory. Against Lynn, Whipple tallied four more goals and two assists.
Heyn, a sophomore defender from Gaithersburg, Md., led the No. 6 Spartans defensive efforts. The Spartans held Rollins to eight goals in a 13-8 victory, and Lynn to five goals in a 19-5 win in the final week of the regular season. Against Rollins, Heyn recorded one assist, collected three ground balls and caused two turnovers. Against Lynn, the sophomore collected five ground balls and caused two more turnovers.
