Men’s Lacrosse Announces 2015 Schedule
TAMPA, Fla. - Entering its fourth season as a
program, the University of Tampa men's lacrosse team announces its
2015 schedule. The schedule is filled with top notch completion, as
six games come against teams ranked in the preseason top 15 by
Inside Lacrosse's 2015 Face-Off Yearbook. UT starts the season off
as the No. 4 ranked team.
Tampa will welcome in defending national champions No. 1
Limestone and No. 12 Mercyhurst into the Naimoli Family Athletic
and Intramural Complex. UT will hit the road to take on No. 11
Florida Southern, No. 15 Saint Leo, and No. 8 Lake Erie.
"With a lot of returners coming back, we are looking forward
to a great year." Said head coach Rory Whipple. "We feel we will be
very competitive in the conference, as well as in the NCAA."
The Spartans open up the 2015 campaign on February 7 with a
neutral site match-up against No. 14 Queens (N.C) in Marietta, Ga.
Queens was the NCAA National Runner-up, as they fell to Limestone
College 17-6.
The Spartans then return home for a four game set. February 8
marks the home opener, as Tusculum makes the trip down to Tampa,
the game is set to start at 12 p.m.
On February 14, UT will host the defending National Champions,
top ranked Limestone College Saints. The Saints defeated the
Spartans last season in the NCAA Semifinal by a score of 14-10, en
route to a national title.
Tampa will then begin Sunshine State Conference play, as they
host the Rollins College Tars on February 28. The Spartans defeated
the Tars in the SSC Semifinal game last season by a final of
13-8.
On March 7, Tampa will head to Lakeland to take on SSC rival,
No. 11Florida Southern. UT swept the series last season, as they
won 12-6 at home, and 11-6 in the inaugural SSC Tournament
Championship Game.
UT returns home for three more games, as they welcome in
Emmanuel (Ga.) on March 9, Ithaca on March 10, and No. 12
Mercyhurst on March 14. Tampa defeated Mercyhurst last season in
the NCAA Tournament, as they won by a final of 11-9 in the
quarterfinal match-up. Ithaca is a top 15 ranked team in NCAA
Division III.
The Spartans then go on to play three games in a week, as they
take on Mars Hills on March 22 in Marietta, Ga., Adams State at
home on March 26, and travel north to take on SSC foe No. 15 Saint
Leo on March 28.
UT then goes on to play back to back road games in Ohio on
April 1st and 2nd, as they take on No. 8 Lake Erie, and Walsh
respectively.
Lynn comes to Tampa to wrap up SSC play,as the Fighting
Knights and Spartans square off on April 11.
Tampa then takes a break from regular season play, as they
participate in the SSC tournament. The semifinal game is on April
24th, while the championship game is April 26th.
May 1st marks senior day for the first group of Spartan four
year Letterman. Tampa welcomes in Colorado Mesa for the regular
season finale.
