Matt Bilak Named USILA Scholar All-American
Senior midfielder Matt Bilak earns the program's first Scholar All-America honor in his final season of play.
PERRY, N.Y. – The University of Tampa men's lacrosse senior Matt Bilak has been named Scholar All-American by the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) as announced by the association office. Bilak is the first Spartan in program history to earn USILA Scholar All-America honors.
In 1989 the USILA Scholar All-America Program was established to recognize student-athletes from USILA member institutions who have distinguished themselves academically, athletically and as citizens of their communities. The USILA Selection Committee selects an overall team representing Division I, II and III.
A Scholar All-American must be nominated by his coach and be a student with a senior year academic standing and a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 (4.0 scale). He will have behaved in a manner that has brought credit to himself, his institution, and to college lacrosse both on and off the field. He must also be an All-American, a member of a North/South team, or an outstanding league or conference player.
Bilak concluded the season with 17 goals and 11 assists, totaling 28 points for the Spartans. The senior added 13 ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers. The midfielder was named to the All-Sunshine State Conference Second Team for his efforts guiding UT to a 15-3 overall record, concluding the season in the NCAA Division II Men's Lacrosse Semifinal for just the second time in program history.
