No. 5 Stays on Top with 10-9 Win Over Spartans

TAMPA, Fla. –  The No. 7 University of Tampa Spartans fall to the No. 5 Saint Leo Lions 10-9.

1st Period

  • Hunter Van Horn starts the game off netting a goal with the assist from Shane Hanlon.
  • With 8:51 left in the period, the Lions tie the game at one.
  • Unassisted, Bryan Wright scores for the Spartans.
  • Chris Cox scores off the pass from Kansai Garey with 5:15 remaining in the period.
  • Saint Leo responds with a goal two minutes later.
  • After the 1st period, Tampa leads Saint Leo 3-2.


2nd Period

  • Saint Leo are the first to score in the 2nd period to tie the game.
  • The Lions take the lead with 11:09 left in the half.
  • With 3:12 remaining in the half, Matt Vetter scores his first goal of the game.
  • Jake Mosher McGraw puts Tampa on top 5 seconds before halftime off the assist from Andrew Kew.
  • Going into the half, the Spartans lead the Lions 5-4.



3rd Period

  • The Lions are the first to score in the 2nd half of the game.
  • The Spartans responded less than a minute later with a goal from Mosher McGraw.
  • Saint Leo ties the game 6-6 with 9:46 remaining in the 3rd period.
  • With 5:50 left in the period, the Lions then take the lead 7-6.
  • At the end of the 3rd period, Saint Leo leads the Spartans 7-6.


4th Period

  • Vetter scored his second goal of the game to tie it 7-7.
  • Wright gives the Spartans the lead with 9:02 left in the game.
  • The Lions score about a minute later to make it 8-8.
  • With 5:04 remaining, Saint Leo takes the lead.
  • Mosher McGraw scores his third goal of the game with 2:58 left.
  • Saint Leo takes the lead with about 3 seconds left in the game.
  • After a back and forth game, the Lions beat the Spartans 10-9.



  • Mosher McGraw led the Spartans on offense with 3 goals. Wright and Vetter each had two goals.
  • Ross Dickerson led with seven groundballs. Luke Posner and Bryan Wright both had four for the Spartans.
  • B.J. Borowski recorded six saves in goal.


The Spartans will travel to Lynn University on Saturday, April 21st where they will compete against the Fighting Knights in their last regular season game of the season. The first faceoff of the contest is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
