Kew and Reisman Start Off Strong in MLL Opening Weekend
ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Major League Lacrosse opened up the 2020 season this past weekend as the six teams will all be playing on the campus of the US Naval Academy. Spartan fans will be familiar with two of the league's players, as former All-American Andrew Kew is returning with the defending champions, Chesapeake Bayhawks. Spartans assistant coach Kevin Reisman is playing for the Boston Cannons.
Kew and the Bayhawaks had two games over the weekend as they would defeat the Philadelphia Barrage 16-11 in the season opener and would then turn around and defeat the New York Lizards 18-13. In the opener against the Barrage, Kew would fuel the offense as he would score six goals on six shots. In the game against the Lizards Kew would add another two goals to push his total to eight goals over two games.
Reisman and the Cannons had one game over the weekend as they were able to pick up a 16-14 victory over the New York Lizards. Reisman led the way in the faceoff-x as he would win 18-31 draws. He would also scoop up five groundballs and add an assist.
The Bayhawks and the Cannons will meet tonight at 7:00 p.m. as fans may watch the game on ESPN+.
The MLL regular season will run through July 24, as the semifinals will be on July 25 and the league championship game will be on July 26.
