Bio

Jay Goldsmith was hired as the assistant coach at the University of Tampa in the fall of 2023 as the offensive coordinator for the Spartans.

In 2025, Tampa finished the season 21-1 and was the National Runner-Up. Under Goldsmith’s guidance, the program recorded the eighth-most total points and 11th-best man-up offense in the nation. Goldsmith was influential in Ryan Kemp earning USILA All-South Region and SSC Offensive Player of the Year accolades, making it the second consecutive season a Spartan collected both the awards. Tampa won the SSC regular season and tournament championship for the ninth time in program history. Goldsmith was a part of a staff that had eight players garner All-American status and was named the SSC Coaching Staff of the Year.

In his first year as offensive coordinator at Tampa, Goldsmith helped guide the Spartans to the sixth-best scoring offense in the nation. Goldsmith mentored the USILA All-South Region and Sunshine State Conference Offensive Player of the Year, Canyon Birch. Tampa recorded an 18-2 overall record and was crowned SSC regular season and tournament champions. The Spartans advanced to the NCAA semifinals for the fifth time while also producing eight All-Americans, nine All-Region, and 11 All-Conference players. Goldsmith also led the Spartan offense to register the second-most points total in the nation and the fifth-most assists and shooting percentage in DII.

Goldsmith previously served as an assistant coach for North Greenville University.

A two-year starter at Lenoir-Rhyne University, Goldsmith began his coaching career with stints at Catawba College and Methodist University before his time at Young Harris.

Jay proved to be a standout player for Lenoir-Rhyne, posting 68 goals, 52 ground balls, and 20 assists. He was named to the South Atlantic Conference All-Conference 2nd Team in 2014 and was an honorable mention in 2015. He also put together a 7-goal performance against Florida Southern in 2015, a program record at the time.

Before his time at Lenoir-Rhyne, he played for Lynchburg College, an NCAA Division III program. There, he recorded 15 goals and 10 assists in 29 games.

After being drafted by the Charlotte Hounds in 2016, Goldsmith began his coaching career at Methodist University in 2017. That year, the Monarchs achieved a 15-3 record and won the SEILC Conference Tournament Championship while averaging 14.2 goals per game.

He then took an assistant coach position with the Catawba Indians in 2018, before returning to his alma mater for the same position in 2019. Goldsmith then received his first taste of a head coaching role in 2020 at Young Harris College. The Mountain Lions finished the season with a 3-3 record, which came to an early end due to COVID-19.

Goldsmith graduated with a degree in Health and Physical Education in 2015.
