MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The 14th-ranked University of Tampa men's soccer team benefited from a Ryan Maxwell goal and a Ryan Thompson shutout to notch its first victory. The 1-0 win moves UT to 1-0-1 as UAH is now 0-2.
Maxwell scored the game-winner at the 34:43 mark on a cross through the box. Freshman Greg Sasser registered the assist as the goal cleared traffic.
Thompson played in goal for UT, tallying three saves en route to his second shutout of the year.
For the game, Tampa out shot Alabama-Huntsville 12-5, including a 7-1 first half mark.
"Defensively, we are happy to come away with two shutouts and our first win," says head coach Adrian Bush. "Offensively we are creating opportunities and lacking execution. That is our job as a staff the next eight days."
UT returns home where it will host Florida College on Monday, Sept. 8 at 4 p.m.
Bush also added, "We have a large number of Jamaicans on our team and our prayers are with their families in Jamaica. Mentally, this has been tough on our kids."
