Ryan Thompson To Play In Europa Cup
DUBLIN, Ireland - Ryan Thompson continues to excel with his professional soccer team, the Shamrock Rovers. His club was drawn to play against partisan Belgrade in the final round of the Europa Cup.
The Rovers previously played Belgrade last week at home and tied 1-1 as Thompson shined in goal as the starter.
He looks to help his team make history by becoming the first Irish team to qualify for any European group stage. The return leg will be played in Belgrade, Serbia as they are expecting to play in front of over 30,000 Serbian supporters.
"I am super anxious and excited about it," says Thompson. "It feels great to be living my dream. It was only a few months back I was watching all these games on television. Now I'm actually playing.
In a record-setting season for the former Spartan, Thompson became the first Jamaican and UT alum to play in the European Champions League.
