Jacksonville Cancels Men’s Soccer Opener With Tampa
TAMPA, Fla. - The scheduled 2011 men's soccer season-opener between the University of Tampa and Jacksonville University has been cancelled by JU. The game was scheduled for Sept. 1, in Jacksonville, Fla.
"This is very unfortunate for our players as it has left us with 14 regular season games, " says head coach Adrian Bush. "In the end, this has left us scrambling at the last minute to get a game as I have honestly called every single collegiate team in the southeast."
NCAA rules require 16 games in order to be eligible for postseason play. Sunshine State Conference tournament contests may also count towards the 16, as the top six teams in the league earn an invite to the tourney. The Spartans will be forced to play at least two SSC tournament contests to qualify for NCAA postseason action.
UT will now open the 2011 campaign on Tues., Sept. 6 at No. 5 Clayton State University. The game will begin at 7:30 p.m., in Morrow, Ga.
