Tampa Stays Put at No. 20 in Latest Men’s Soccer Poll
KANSAS CITY, Kan. - The University of Tampa men's soccer team is ranked No. 20 for the second consecutive week in the NSCAA/Continental Tire NCAA Division IIrankings.
Tampa is one of three Sunshine State Conference schools in the top-25 as it is joined by No. 1 Lynn and No. 7 Rollins. Saint Leo is also listed as receiving votes.
The Spartans now stand at 1-0-1 on the season as they opened the season with a 2-2 tie against Clayton State. UT responded with a 4-0 win over Coker as both games were regional contests.
All-American Tyler Blackwood continued his success as the junior forward netted three goals and two assists. Blackwood was honored as the SSC Offensive Player of the Week for his contributions.
Senior David Niepel faced 30 shots and came away with nine saves. He helped preserve a tie at Clayton State as the Spartans played a man-down for the final 30 minutes.
UT has now been ranked for six consecutive weeks. Additionally, UT has earned a mention in the poll in a total of 14 seasons, including seven straight.
Bush now stands at 91 career wins as he looks to become the third head coach in program history to eclipse 100 and join Tom Fitzgerald (145) and Jay Miller (120) in the club.
The Spartans host Florida Memorial University in its home opener on Friday at 7 p.m., at Pepin Stadium.
