Alex Hetland Breaks School Record to Lead Spartans Over Indian River
TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa men's swimming team registered a 139-123 victory over visiting Indian River State College behind a record performance by Alex Hetland. The Spartan women were defeated 141-120 by the national powerhouse IRSC squad.
With four first-place finishes, Hetland broke current assistant coach Jim Kiner's school record in the 100 Breast with a time of 55.33. He also won the 200 Breast with a time of 2:09.06 to pace the Spartan men. Hetland was also part of a first-place performance by UT's 400 Free Relay team along with Jeffrey Fiore, Frank Kuchta and Matt Kramer. He was also part of a first-place effort in the 200 Medley Relay with Kramer, Daniel Hernandez and Mike Verdi.
Kramer also turned in a first-place finish in the 100 Back. Hunter Lineback then won the 400 IM.
The Spartan women opened the meet with the top finish in the 200 Medley Relay as Ellie Eschleman, Allison Vetter, Lindsay Calimer and Madison Flake each played a part. Calimer also won the 100 Fly as teammate Dana Glodek championed the 200 Fly for UT.
Tampa is back in action on Sat., Nov. 15, when it travels to Winter Park to meet Rollins. The match is scheduled for 1 p.m.
