Tampa Men’s Swimming Heads to Final Day of NCAA Championships in Top 10
GENEVA, Ohio - The University of Tampa men's and women's swimming teams completed the third day of the 2014 NCAA Division II Swimming & Diving Championships. The four-day event is being hosted by the Spire Institute.
Tampa's men are alone in ninth place, recording 139 points through the first three days. The Spartan women have moved up to 21st with 45 total points. Drury is the top school in both men's (406.5) and women's (358) action.
Karl Burdis began the finals for UT with a school record performance in the 100 Back. His sixth place performance was clocked at 48.02.
Alex Hipolito competed in the 100 Breast (16th), notching a time of 1:04.53. Also competing in individual races for the Spartans were Catherine Parker (200 Fly, 13th, 2:03.77) and Zane Hranac (200 Fly, 12th, 1:49.66).
UT's 800 Free Relay team of Hipolito, Briana Murphy, Heather Glenday and Erin Plachy earned All-American laurels with a sixth place showing of 7:27.37.
Damen Pheiffer, Martin Hammer, Jeremy Parker, Runar Borgen competed in the 800 Free Relay on the men's side, placing ninth at 6:34.74.
